Merry Christmas to Yankee Fans

The Yankees won out on the Mark Teixeira bidding war today, signing the first baseman to an 8-year $180 million contract. When asked for comment, Yankees senior Vice-President Hank Steinbrenner replied with this.

Keep ramping up the expectations New York, yet you still need to have a good blend of players. Or, or, some youth promise. Mark my words: they won't make the playoffs.

The thing is, Mark, you're absolutely right. They DO need to make sure these players form a cohesive unit and they DO need to develop young stars like they did in the mid-'90s. This is what I keep saying to people who accuse the Yanks of buying the World Series championship in December.
