Toni Collette is awesome.
The NY Times had one of those "Movie Minute" video things with A.O. Scott today, talking about Muriel's Wedding and the pivotal role of the music in it. And it made me remember what an awesome movie it is.
Muriel's Wedding is phenomenal in many ways, but musically it's brilliant because the music is her driving force, her dream, her motivation. She wants a life as good as "Dancing Queen." How can you not relate to that?
Goodbye Porpoise Spit!
See, when Mamma Mia! first opened, I assumed it was a stage verions of Muriel's Wedding. I'm not sure how many years it took me to realize that in fact there were two productions involving ABBA.
Er, stage version, singular. And yes, Toni Collette rules all.
I think I might have to get Showtime just to see The United States of Tara.
