Grab Me

So here's where you help me. FOR ONCE. Any suggestions for screen-grabbing software that would be a) free, b) simple, and c) workable on a PC instead of those fancy-pants Macs? I can grab DVD images easy, but, for example from the previous post, trailers are ungrabbable territory for me.

This is one of those areas where I'm incredibly tech un-savvy, so feel free to explain it to me like I'm a toddler.

I use PrintKey (http://www.webtree.ca/newlife/printkey_info.htm). I don't know if that'll give you what you are looking for, but it's free.

Did you get yourself Photoshop Elements? All I do is hit the key up at the top right that says "Prt sc" (it's up there with "Break" and other things I don't use), then I open Photoshop Elements, and I hit CTRL+V for "Paste," and a full screenshot pops up as a picture. And then I crop it. That's how I did the screenshots for that Survivor post that one time.

Maybe I'm not understanding what you need.

Whoops -- on this machine, I actually have to hit "Fn" and that "Pr Scr" button, because "Pr Scr" is the function key while "insert" is the main...thing. On the key. If that makes sense.

Buy a mac.

(Sorry I just had to.)

Oh, I never tire of Mac superiority. Just because I let Justin Long get away with it doesn't mean the rest of you can.

If you want something really, really easy to use, I highly recommend SnagIt. I use it at work every day - you can grab whatever you want, fully cropped and ready to go. It also has all kinds of editing stuff - just came out with a new version 9.0 a couple of weeks ago. Not quite free, but as close as it gets.

If you are still looking, I'd recommend MWSnap3. It lets you do screenshots as well as snaps from individual application windows.

I've heard wonderful things about SnagIt as well.
