Low Res Celebrates So You Think You Can Dance Week, Day 2

Yesterday, I posted a clip featuring the first great performance of Season 3. Today's clip was probably the last great routine of Season 3. It also features probably my least favorite dancer of last season's top finishers. That would be Danny. He teams up with Neil here in the rare boy-boy routine (though Mia Michaels and the boys take great pains to make it as "masculine" as possible, lest Nigel pass out from the vapors), and what results is improbably awesome and weird and theatrical. They're dance-fighting!

The behind-the-scenes ramp-up is worth watching, too, both for Neil's characteristic goofiness as well as Danny's bizarre decision to channel Maya Rudolph as Whitney Houston. The routine represents what The Tudors looks like in my head, minus all the hardcore screwing (which, granted, is like 80% of what The Tudors looks like in my head). It shows Neil at his most athletic and Danny at his most pompous, which is just about right for both.

A perfect illustration of how great Mia is at telling a story and amping up the drama with her choreography. The in-your-face-clapping? It's not just dance, it's a PERFORMANCE.

The Season 3 final performance show was full to the brim with great dancing and terrific routines though...my favorite of the whole season was Mandy Moore's table dance with Sabra and Neil.

Ohh, I love this one. Perfect song choice. Next to the Mandy Moore 80's negotiation with Neil and Sabra, this is my favorite routine from last season.

Or, you know, what melissa said. Heh.

Yes, agreed with Melissa and Trish, that those two performances were the epitome of awesomeness on this show. And I did not care for Neil early on, but he really came into his own late in the game.

Thank you for doing this series, Joe. I'm so happy to see these dances again!

Thanks! And I promise to post a non-Mia routine some day (though seriously, you have not seen the last of her here).

I just watched Ian & Allison's contemporary routine from season 2 last night (choreographed by Tyce). You should check it out. That shit is HOTT!

Uhh, that's Ivan & Allison. Stupid typos.
