This Week In The Internet

If you're looking for something fun to read -- or write -- this week, please do head on over to The Film Experience on Tuesday and either take in or take part in the Action Heroine Blog-A-Thon. I'm going to try like hell to write something for it myself, and if I do you'll see it here. But check back at Nathaniel's site first -- you can't go wrong.

And speaking of big blog projects, remember last summer when I did that little (monstrously large) Actress Tournement? Well, considering I'm super OCD about symmetry with this kind of thing, I figure it's about time to get to taking on the other gender in another take-no-prisoners tournament. So that should be starting again very (very) soon -- keep an eye out.

Actors!! YAAAY!! Can we make suggestions as to whose in the running?

Joe R. said...

You can, but it won't do any good. The field has already been set. You could make guesses, I suppose.

Well Billy Crudup is a given ... Probably some classics like DeNiro, Nicholson, Kingsley and Hopkins just to see if they still hold up. I vote for Don Cheadle just because I LOVE HIM, and also Leo, though I admit he's an acquired taste. Big names-slash-eye candy like Clooney and Pitt, perhaps? Steve Carrell is probably the best of the hot current comedians. And some serious acting-cred guys like Edward Norton, Kevin Spacey and Sean Penn. I guess I shouldn't try to guess all 64, so I'll end with a few more good options: Robert Downey Jr., Jake Gyllenhaal, Heath Ledger, Forrest Whitaker, Patrick Fugit, Ryan Gosling, James McAvoy, Clive Owen .... err, I'll stop now. Sorry. =)

You're at about 62%. I'm confining this to the last ten years, so that should explain most of the omissions.

Last 10 years, huh? OK. Denzel, Don Cheadle...check, check. Will Smith? Of course.

So far, Mathan is pleased.

Will Terrence Howard make the cut of "black-tors"? I say, "yes", but he could be on the bubble.

Forest Whitaker's Oscar win has to slide him thru the backdoor, but I'll understand if you want to set-up a "play in" game between Forest and Morgan Freeman.

I'm most looking forward to seeing the reaction shots of Bernie Mac during the tournament selection show. He's always good for a hilarious double take.

Oooh, this is fun!

10 years takes us all the way back to Titanic's original release date, so in my defense you still have As Good as it Gets and About Schmidt for Nicholson, American History X and Rounders for Norton, House of Sand and Fog for Kingsley, Zodiac for Downey and American Beauty for Spacey. Chris Cooper? He was in that and I know you loved Adaptation.

Johnny Depp? Djimon Hounsou? Joaquin Phoenix? Philip Seymour Hoffman? Ed Harris? Jude Law? He's pretty.

Does your love for Laura Linney extend to Mark Ruffalo in You Can Count On Me? Can Adrian Brody get in on the strength of The Pianist or is that kiss tipping the scales?

Russell Crowe did some good work back then too. And he'd definitely win a girlfight. Is that a criterion this time?

Getting warmer...and Aaron Cameron's gonna be appalled by Whitey's dominance on this list. I'm kind of appalled by it. Anyway...

I've got a Studio 60 recap to finish today, so I'd like to get the first Actors post up tomorrow.
